Geothermal Resources and Hydrogeotermal Systems

Study program:
Hidrogeology (X semester -MsC)
Name of subject: Geothermal Resources and Hydrogeotermal Systems
Instructors:
Prof. Ana Vranješ, Prof. Dejan Milenić
Status: Optional
ECTS: 6
Prerequisites: Geothermal energy
Course Objectives:
Introduction into Geothermal energy exploitation and possibilities of energy utilization. Giving the knowledge about basic hydrogeothermal systems subjects and their clasification, indetification, main characteristics of systems, system genesis, and system developing during the time in the purpose of defining importance of geothermal filed for future exploitation. Introduction into hydrogeological/hydrogeothermal dublets design and giving the knowledge about geoprobes and heating pumps using examples from "live" project of hydrogeothermal energy usage.
Learning Outcomes:
Skills developing as induction cogitation in case of identification of hydrogeothermal systems; conceptual approach and specifics of hydrothermal models design, investigation methods in aim to defining the system and geothermal resources quantification based on simulation software of hydrogeothermal models. Developing skills for successful substitution of fossil fuels by hydrogeothermal energy.
Content:

Theory teaching
Definition of the Geothermal resources systems and source, geothermal systems classification (hydrogeothermal systems: convective and conductive); system elements, fluid origin in the hydrogeothermal systems (water origin, gas origin applying the isotope hydrogeothermology); Hydrogeothermal reservoirs exploration (exploration strategy, reservoir quantification, exploration methodolgy, methods of investigations, methods of the hydrogeothermal resource quantification and methods of geothermal heat and energy valorization). Optimisation of the hydrogeothermal energy usage, groundwater chemical composition as factor of geothermal energy use, hydrogeothermal dublets, groundwater cascade use, litho(petro)geothermal energy and geoprobes, practise of geothermal project in Serbia.
