srb_Tretiranje, skladištenje i odlaganje opasnog otpada

Study program:
Environmental Engineering (X semester -MsC)
Name of subject: srb_Tretiranje, skladištenje i odlaganje opasnog otpada
Instructors:
Prof. Dragana Nišić
Status: Compulsory
ECTS: 6
Prerequisites: Disposal of industrial waste, Physical and colloidal chemistry
Course Objectives:
Understanding technical and non-technical management of hazardous substances and hazardous waste.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Understanding the terminology, nomenclature and significant characteristics of hazardous waste and materials 2. Predicting the behavior of hazardous chemicals on the surface, soil, groundwater and processing systems 3. Choosing the most appropriate treatment, temporary storage and disposal of hazardous waste 4. Application of scientific principles on hazardous waste for management, remediation and treatment 5. Assessment of toxicity and risks in exposure to hazardous chemicals
Content:

Theory teaching
Introduction to hazardous waste, the definition of hazardous waste, Law regulations in the world, the European Union and Serbia, the provision of permits for work, temporary storage, transport and landfill. Classification of hazardous waste according to "Waste Catalog" (EWC). Labeling of hazardous waste. Characterization of hazardous waste (sampling, testing, control, decision making) Production of hazardous waste (chemical industry, mining, electricity production, metallurgy). Processes of physical and chemical and biological treatment of hazardous waste (flocculation and agglomeration, flotation, filtration, evaporation, neutralization, oxidation-reduction, sorption ...). Stabilization and solidification of hazardous waste. Thermal treatment (insineration, pyrolysis, gasification, plasma technology) and disposal of residues. Transport of hazardous waste. Temporary storage of hazardous waste (underground, above ground). Prevention of pollution and minimization of waste. Landfilling of hazardous waste (formation of dumps, hydrotechnical arrangement - linings). Hazardous waste disposal (landfill operation, closure of landfills). Impact of landfill of hazardous waste on the environment (groundwater, air, land, population) and monitoring. Risk assessment and financial insurance in handling hazardous waste

Practical teaching
Classification of hazardous waste. Labeling of hazardous waste. Characterization of hazardous waste. Physico-chemical processes and treatment of hazardous waste. Processes of biological treatment of hazardous waste. Stabilization and solidification. Thermal treatment (incineration) and disposal of residues. Temporary storage of hazardous waste (underground, above ground). Prevention of pollution and minimization of waste. Hazardous waste disposal. The impact of hazardous waste dumps on the environment and monitoring. Risk Assessment in Hazardous Waste Management.
