Course Objectives:
Acquiring advanced knowledge related to geotechnical characteristics of municipal waste. Getting acquainted with geotechnical parameters necessary for designing sanitary landfills.
Learning Outcomes:
Ability to independently analyze geotechnical aspects of municipal waste. Acquisition of the necessary knowledge for scientific research and expert work in the field of municipal waste geotechnics.
Content:

Theory teaching
Basic indicators of the physical state of municipal waste; Geotechnical classification of municipal waste; Shear strength of municipal waste; Deformability of municipal waste; Factors affecting the change of physical-mechanical properties of municipal waste (compaction, creep, biodegradation, chemical changes);Settlement mechanism of municipal waste; Settlement models of municipal waste; Slope stability of municipal waste; Bearing capacity of municipal waste; Constitutive models of municipal waste; Structure elements of municipal landfills; Protection systems of municipal landfills base; Coverage protection systems at municipal landfills; General about bioreactor landfills.

Practical teaching
Consultations, Audio-visual presentations with examples of instability at municipal landfills in the world, application of software tools in Geotechnics of municipal waste; Seminar paper.
