Course Objectives: The goal of this course is to acquire knowledge about basic principles and methodology in research of morphology of fossil plants |
Learning Outcomes: The student acquires skills in identifying and recognization of certain organs and parts of fossil plants. |
Content:
Theory teaching Basics of general morphology. Definition of plant morphology. Systematic units. Basic concepts in plant morphology. Evolutionary development of the shape of the plant body. Herbal tissues: meristem; vegetation cup; skin tissue; mechanical tissue; conductive tissue. Phylogenesis of conductive tissue. Phylogenesis of the list of terrestrial plants (Zittel’s theory). Origin and evolution of seed habitus. Anatomical tree structure; origin and evolution. Anatomical structure of the root system; origin and evolution. Anatomical material; origin and evolution. Reproduction of plants - shift of generations (moss, fernd, seed plants). Practical teaching Microscopic recognition of various plant tissues and plant organs. Comparison of fossil and recent plant material. |
