Course Objectives: This class will cover the basic principles and methods of biostratigraphic research and application of the obtained results in biostratigraphic division of sediments. |
Learning Outcomes: Ability to establish systematic subdivision of a stratigraphic section into named units based on their fossil content. |
Content:
Theory teaching Definition and tasks of the biostratigraphy. Biostratigraphy and other geological discipline. Principles and methodology of the biostratigraphy. Biostratigraphic classification, terminology and nomenclature. Nature of biostratigraphic and other units. Time scale and biostratigraphic zonations. Practical teaching Biostratigraphy analysis - Kinds of Biostratigraphic Units (Fossil Zones): Taxon-range Zone, Concurrent-range Zone, Interval Zone, Lineage Zone, Assemblage Zone, Abundance zone. |
