Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to acquire knowledge about the basic micro-paleobotanical groups and their characteristics. |
Learning Outcomes: Students gain knowledge on morphological characteristics of individual groups of plant microfossils, their biostratigraphic and paleoecological significance. |
Content:
Theory teaching Basic characteristics of algae: Cyanophyta, Rhodophyta, Coccolithophoridaeae, Silicoflagellateae, Peridineae, Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Charophyta. Microplankton- incertae sedis: Acritarch and Chitinozoa, their structure and stratigraphic distribution. Spores; morphological structure, review of descendants and their stratigraphic and botanical origin. Polen; morphological structure of Angiosperm`s and Gymnosperm`s pollen - overview of significant gender with reference to the stratigraphic and botanical origin. Paleopalynological complexes of Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic. Practical teaching Microscopic identification of microfossils. |
