Study program:
Petrology and Geochemistry (IX semester -MsC) |
Name of subject: Petrology of wall rock alterations |
Instructors:
Prof. Danica Srećković - Batočanin |
Status: Optional |
ECTS: 5 |
Prerequisites: no |
Course Objectives: Importance of wall-rock alterations in prospecting and exploration of mineral resources. Introducing with the main alteration styles and indicative minerals and/or mineral assemblages-argyllitization,potassic alteration, phyllic, advance argyllic, silification, skarn, propilitization... Recognition the link between alteration style and mineralization with geochemical signatures. Gangue minerals and ore minerals as a function of physical-chemical conditions and fluid composition. |
Learning Outcomes: Qualifying for individual work in the field and for individual desk-job. Microscopic determination of mineral assemblage and recognition of original rocks. Preparation for higher levels of studying. |
Content:
Theory teaching Introduction. Wall-rock alterations and their role in mineral prospecting. Minerals as indicators. main alteration styles and their typomorphic minerals. Results of acid fluids activity on acid or basic igneous rocks. Genesis of fluids. Gangue minerals - silica minerals, carbonates, oxides, sulfides, fluorite...Less common alterations- feldspatization, greisen (tourmaline)systems.. Practical teaching exercises using microscope (identification of indicative minerals and primary rocks) |
