Course Objectives: Training for direct practical work on the scanning electron microscope, from sample preparation, through direct observation to the presentation of analytical data. |
Learning Outcomes: Students are getting knowledge and skills for the independent work on the scanning electron microscope (SEM). |
Content:
Theory teaching Basic principles of electronic microscopy - introduction; Function of important parts of the scanning electron microscope; Preparation of different types of samples and application on the supports; Basic principles of covering (gold, carbon); Attaining vacuum, entering and changing the sample, SEI and BSE images; EDS/WDS analysis; Unpolished samples - qualitative and semi-quantitative analyzes, internal standards; External standards; Polished Samples - Point and Line Quantitative Analysis; Mapping; Analytical errors; View of analytical data; Cathodoluminescence - zircon and other mineral species; Practical teaching Practical exercises in a laboratory for scanning electron microscopy from material preparation through direct measurement to presentation and processing of results. |
