Instruments and Methods in Crystallography 1

Study program:
Minerology and Crystallography (VII semester -MsC)
Name of subject: Instruments and Methods in Crystallography 1
Instructors:
Prof. Aleksandar Kremenović
Status: Optional
ECTS: 5
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
Different techniques for registering the intensity of diffracted X-rays on polycrystalline materials are examined. The principles of manipulation with different crystallographic instruments are studied.
Learning Outcomes:
After passing a course, students should be familiar with practical and theoretical basis in the field of X-ray analysis of polycrystalline materials.
Content:

Theory teaching
Crystal. X-rays. Bragg low. X-ray tube. Synchrotron. Neutrons. Safety procedures. Photographic techniques for X-ray detection. Electronic counters for X-ray detection. Detectors. Plotters. X-ray powder patterns registered on a film. X-ray powder diffractometry. Sample preparation.

Practical teaching
Practical exercises are closely connected to lectures. One seminar work is planed to be realized.
