Study program:
Minerology and Crystallography (V semester -BsC) Paleontology (V semester -BsC) Petrology and Geochemistry (V semester -BsC) Regional geology (V semester -BsC) |
Name of subject: Fundamentals of Applied Petrography |
Instructors:
Prof. Vesna Matović |
Status: Optional |
ECTS: 5 |
Prerequisites: does not have |
Course Objectives: Acquiring basic knowledge of physical-mechanical, technical-technological properties, and stone durability, methods of processing of finishing stone products. Introduction to the laboratory methods for testing the quality of stone. |
Learning Outcomes: Training for the study of stone quality, laboratory testing of physical-mechanical properties and assessment of the possibility of application of stones in different industrial branches. Training for assessment of the durability of stones and preparation for several levels of studies (master and doctoral studies). |
Content:
Theory teaching Petrographic properties of rocks; physical properties of stones (color, specific and bulk density, porosity, hardness, water absorption, thermal properties, acoustic, electrical, magnetic and radioactive properties of the stone, mechanical properties (strain and deformation, elastic properties, compressive strenght, tensile, bending and shearing strenght; plastic and rheological properties; durability of stone (physical and chemical degradation of stone and bidegradation); basic technical and technological properties of stone; processing of stone and forms of stone application. Practical teaching Exercises are followed by teaching units; introduction to laboratory methods of testing of physical and mechanical properties and quality of stone; visits to laboratories in specialized stone testing institutions; practical acquisition of skills for interpretation of laboratory test results. |
