Course Objectives:
Acquiring the basic knowledge about the role of mineralogical investigations in solving of the environmental problems.
Learning Outcomes:
Students acquire the ability to recognize environmental problems associated with characteristic natural mineral species as well as the secondary formation of minerals caused by the anthropogenic activities.
Content:

Theory teaching
Minerals and the environment. The reaction of minerals with the environment. Minerals in the soil. Minerals and causes of landslides. Mineral particles in the air. Minerals dangerous for human health. Radioactive minerals. Minerals as adsorbents. Decomposition of mineral species and stability of secondary phases, especially those containing toxic metals. Mineralogy of the mine waste and remediation strategies.

Practical teaching
Analyses and methods of research in the mineralogy of the environment.
