Course Objectives:
The aim of this course is to familiarize with stratigraphy as a geological discipline, its fundamental principles, the principles of methods in stratigraphic research, and the basic categories and terms of stratigraphic classification and nomenclature.
Learning Outcomes:
Awareness of stratigraphy as fundamental geological discipline and its significance in contemporary research
Content:

Theory teaching
Subject of research. Definition and review of development. Basic stratigraphic principles: superposition, paleontological significance, spatial variability, spatial and temporal migration of geological bodies, the principle of evolution, the principle of aktualism. Introduction to methods of stratigraphic research: lithostratigraphy, tectonostratigraphy, magnetostratigraphy, geophysical logging, biostratigraphy, seismic stratigraphy, isotope geochronology, sequence stratigraphy, hemostatigraphy, event stratigraphy, cyclostratigraphy, climatostratigraphy. The time and boundaries in stratigraphy. Stratigraphic profiles, gaps, scales. Stratigraphic classification, terminology and nomenclature.

Practical teaching
Slides, video projections, photos, plates and tables. Working on specific tasks related to the given teaching unit. Independent research work.
