Geology (III semester -PhD) |
Name of subject: Paleobiogeography - Selected Topics |
Instructors:
Prof. Jelena Milivojević |
Status: Optional |
ECTS: 10 |
Prerequisites: - |
Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to acquire knowledge on the distribution of organisms in the geological past and how that distribution explains their present appearance. |
Learning Outcomes: Student acquires knowledge of paleogeographic characteristics based on the spatial distribution of organisms in the geological past. |
Content:
Theory teaching Palaeobiogeographical terms. Paleoenviroment features of selected groups of organisms. Types of barriers. Types of palaeobiogeographical distribution. Reconstruction of continents position before the opening of the ocean based on the distribution of organisms in the geological past. Interpretation of climatic conditions by analyzing data on the distribution of the selected group. Practical teaching Practice accompanies lectures and are designed as independent work of students on particular fossil material. |
Suggested Reading List:
