Study program:
Geology (I semester -PhD) |
Name of subject: Coal Petrology |
Instructors:
Prof. Dragana Životić |
Status: Optional |
ECTS: 10 |
Prerequisites: - |
Course Objectives: The aim of this course is detailed learning about the properties and botanical origin of microscopic components of brown and stone coal and changes during the carbonification process. |
Learning Outcomes: Training of candidates for determination of petrographic components of coal, processing of literature data related to the study of various coal facies and formations. The synthesis of petrographic data of coal and geochemistry of coal will allow a closer examination of the conditions for the formation of coal, the origin of organic matter, the degree of carbonization and the application of coal in the industry. |
Content:
Theory teaching Theoretical basis of maceral analysis. Optical properties of macerals of the huminite, vitrinite, liptinite and inertinite groups. Definition of microlithotypes. Theoretical basis of microlithotype analysis. Identification of microlithotypes of brown and hard coal. Introduction to the methods of measuring the reflection of huminite. Introduction to microscopic examination of peat, coke and solid residue after combustion. Practical teaching Microscopic determination of the macerals of the huminite, vitrinite, liptinite and inertinite groups, as well as the measurement of the reflectance of huminite and vitrinite. Microscopic determination of microlithotypes of brown and hard coals. |
