Foundation Engineering

Study program:
Geotechnics (VII semester -BsC)
Name of subject: Foundation Engineering
Instructors:
Prof. Dragoslav Rakić, Prof. Irena Basarić Ikodinović
Status: Compulsory
ECTS: 6
Prerequisites: Soil Mechanics
Course Objectives:
Acquiring knowledge about the types of foundations and the method of their construction. Introduction to the analysis of soil-structure interaction in terms of bearing capacity and settlements.
Learning Outcomes:
Acquire the necessary geotechnical analyses for the foundation design.
Content:

Theory teaching
Introduction. Soil structure interaction. Foundation load. Bases for design and construction of foundations. Shallow foundation: foundation types, choice of foundation depth. Selection of foundation type and design basis (geotechnical investigation works, selection of shallow foundation type). Construction method of shallow foundations; Limit and allowable load of shallow foundations. Settlement of shallow foundations. Allowable settlements. Deep foundations: foundation type, choice of foundation depth. Piles: floating and end bearing piles. Performing procedures at deep foundations; Limit and allowable load of piles. Anchors: type of anchors, their application and construction methods. Diaphragms: application, construction method; Foundations on rocks.

Practical teaching
Independent calculation exercises which include solving of examples that follow lecture material
