Electromagnetometry

Study program:
Geophysics (IX semester -MsC)
Name of subject: Electromagnetometry
Instructors:
Dr Snežana Ignjatović
Status: Optional
ECTS: 5
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
The objective of this course is to acquire basic knowledge about the characteristics of the electromagnetic force, which is one of the four fundamental forces in nature and the fundamental development of modern technology.
Learning Outcomes:
The result of the course is understanding and a further improvement in terms of performance electromagnetometry measurements, as well as understanding the difference between natural and artificial electromagnetic radiation. Students will master the mathematical formulations and calculations of propagation and effects of electromagnetic fields for simple designs.
Content:

Theory teaching
Basic settings and theorems of electromagnetic field. Maxwell’s equations. Electromagnetic induction, propagation of electromagnetic waves. Special cases manifestations of electromagnetic fields. General equations of the electromagnetic field. Electrical field, magnetic field, duality theorem. Polarization, dielectric constant, the spectrum of electromagnetic radiation, reflection and refraction of electromagnetic waves. The electrical field of time constant current. Troubleshooting time-variable electromagnetic fields. Antenna, radiation and diffraction.

Practical teaching
Practical lessons in the field of data acquisition, electromagnetometry monitoring and data acquisition. During the course exercises, students are prepared for a seminar paper.

Suggested Reading List:
  1. Popović, B., 1989: Elektromagnetika. Građevinska Knjiga, Beograd.
Conduct of the Course:
Theory shown through multimedia presentations and the corresponding calculations at the school board, with practical demonstrations of measurements up-to-date measurement systems. The exercises are performed individually on the computer, using the appropriate software packages.
