Course Objectives:
The objective of this course is mastering computer skills, using basic computer programs, which are used in geophysics. The objective is to train students in creating and using different databases, and presenting the results of professional and scientific research thought graphic and text, using different computer programs. |
Learning Outcomes:
The result of the course is to acquire knowledge and competencies necessary to work with basic computer programs (which are used in geophysics) and geophysical databases, essential for overcoming vocational subjects during the study, as well as for scientific research and professional work. |
Content:
Theory teaching
Introduction to the application of computers in geophysics, detailed introduction to the program objective. How does the computer works. Internet. Word processors, basic rules of writing texts. Programs for working with tables. Software for processing graphics and images. Software to produce graphical reports and pictures. Programs to create presentations, basic rules for a successful presentation of the results of the work. Geophysical database and other databases, which are used in geophysics. Programs for creating charts and profiles. Programs for creating charts and block diagrams. Specific geophysical programs. Practical teaching
Select a theme for the project (through exercises, students are preparing for the project, which is presented on the final exam) and assessment of students’ knowledge. The use of the Internet. Processing (input, folding and buckling of the text, formula, figures, tables). Working with tables. Processing of drawings (maps, etc.) and pictures. Making simple images and graphic presentations. Creating presentations (entering text, formulas, tables, graphics). Working with geophysical and other databases. Creating graphs and profiles. Creating different types of charts and block diagrams. |

Conduct of the Course:
Computer presentations are used during the lectures and exercises. Presentations are available to students in order to enable better preparation for the lectures. All exercises are practical and are performed on a computer, thus providing a better understanding and mastering the material. |
