Paleontology (VII semester -MsC)
Petrology and Geochemistry (VII semester -MsC)
Regional geology (IX semester -MsC)
Geophysics (IX semester -MsC)
Name of subject: Quaternary Geology
Instructors:
Prof. Draženko Nenadić, Jelena Stefanović
Status: Optional
ECTS: 5
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
Getting to know types of Quaternary deposits, research methods, distribution of these deposits in the world, and particularly in the territory of Serbia.
Learning Outcomes:
Possibility of stratigraphic and palaeontological defining, division and correlation of these deposits, possibilty of building in Quaternary deposits and their significance as useful mineral raw material.
Content:

Theory teaching
General characteristics of the Quaternary. Development of Quaternary thought, magnetic field reversion, economic and scientific character of the Quaternary. Palaeontological characteristics of the Quaternary. Methods of research in the geology of the Quaternary. Types of Quaternary deposits. Review of regional geology of the Quaternary. Quaternary of Serbia and surrounding area.

Practical teaching
Showing slides with corresponding profiles and areas of Quaternary sediment distribution. Video projections of science-popular serials related to the Quaternary. Displaying concrete lithological material obtained from shallow boreholes. Lithological and paleontological treatment and study of the obtained material by macroscopic and microscopic (stereoscopic binocular) methods. Tour of the laboratory and palaeontological collections from the Quaternary period. Preparation of an independent seminar paper where a detailed issue related to the geology of the Quaternary is studied in detail. Fields: tour of alluvial levels and loess profiles in the area of Belgrade, possibly a tour of the boreholes that is under construction (mapping and stratigraphic separation of sediments in wells with special reference to Quaternary creations).
