Study program:
Hidrogeology (VII semester -BsC)
Name of subject: Hydrogeochemistry
Instructors:
Prof. Jana Štrbački
Status: Optional
ECTS: 5
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
Introduction to the processes of rock-water interaction and basic processes of formation of chemical composition of groundwater. Introduction to modeling in hydrogeochemistry. Upgrading the basic knowledge from the Hydrochemistry course and its applications for different purposes in the field of hydrogeological research.
Learning Outcomes:
Training a student for independent work in the field of hydrogeochemistry.
Content:

Theory teaching
Chemical equilibrium, water-rock interaction, development of chemical composition of water, from precipitation to spring water, ion exchange, sorption, carbonate equilibrium, silicate weathering, redox processes, biogeochemical cycle of carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, iron and phosphorus, factors controlling the chemical composition of groundwater, migration of chemical elements (macro- and micro- elements and trace elements), radioactivity of groundwater, the ratio of low mineralized and saline waters, genesis of the chemical composition of groundwater and vertical hydrochemical zoning, chemical composition of groundwater from various aquifer types (influence of lithology), hydrochemical anomalies, incrustation and corrosion, the use of multivariate statistical methods in hydrogeochemistry, hydrogeochemical modeling.
