Field Work - Hydrogeological Mapping

Course Objectives:
Introduction to the important elements of: field orienteering, collection and updating of relevant hydrogeological and other datasets, selection of the routes and usage of different maps (topographical, geological and other) and cross sections in hydrogeological mapping. Practical application of the basic principles of construction and data interpretation of Hydrogeological map, cross sections and supporting documentation.
Learning Outcomes:
Mastering the basic principles of hydrogeological mapping, measurement and updating of hydrogeological data as well as practical production of hydrogeological maps with accompanying documentary material.
Content:

Theory teaching
Introduction, orientation in space, field safety measures, equipment-instruments and measuring. Evaluation of data validity and measurement error. Methods of hydrogeological mapping in different hydrogeological terrain. Use of basic documents in hydrogeological mapping - topographic, geological maps, satellite and aero recordings. Getting acquainted with the basis for making HG maps, preliminary and work map, stratigraphic column, cross sections, interpreter and final map.

Practical teaching
Establishment of monitoring network, direct mapping of terrain, selection of routes, data processing, creation of cadastre of water objects and phenomena. Practical application of field and cabinet methods. Orientation and measurement.

Conduct of the Course:
Lectures: Oral presentation based on prepared PP of teaching units. Exercises: performing field lessons, directly measuring and collecting data on conducted hydrogeological mapping, as well as preparing the working and final version of the hydrogeological map and field guides. Continuous checking of knowledge during field work. Teaching duties are completed during the course of fieldwork in the field as well as in the office hours.
