Study program:
Hidrogeology (IV semester -BsC) |
Name of subject: Hydrochemistry |
Instructors:
Prof. Jana Štrbački |
Status: Compulsory |
ECTS: 7 |
Prerequisites: - |
Course Objectives: Application of general chemical laws in hydrochemistry, introduction to the cycle of chemical elements in the hydrosphere, importance of organic and biological components, introduction to groundwater hydrochemistry. Empowering a student for effective participation in courses on higher levels of study (for example, Hydrogeochemistry course). Introduction to laboratory and field hydrochemical methods. Introduction to application of different methods of hydrochemical research (field and laboratory) and to application of various hydrochemical software. Study of the relationship between chemical composition of atmospheric waters, surface waters and ground waters. |
Learning Outcomes: Basic knowledge of the hydrochemistry of atmospheric waters, surface waters and ground waters. Mastering the basics of analytical field and laboratory methods for determining physical and chemical parameters of water quality. |
Content:
Theory teaching Introduction to water properties, structure and anomalous water properties, basic hydrochemical concepts and terms: solutions, physical properties of natural waters (atmospheric precipitation, surface waters, sea water), gas composition, macro-components, micro-components. Chemical composition of groundwater, hydrochemical screening, monitoring, data processing, hydrochemical classifications, hydrochemical maps and cross sections, radioactivity of groundwater, biological composition, processes and factors of formation of chemical composition of groundwater, genesis of hydrochemical types of groundwater, quality of groundwater for various purposes. Making of hydrochemical reports. Application of hydrochemical software. |
