Study program:
Environmental Engineering (I semester -BsC) Mining Engineering (I semester -BsC) Petroleum Engineering (I semester -BsC) |
Name of subject: Basics of Geology and Mineralogy |
Instructors:
Dr Uroš Stojadinović, Prof. Aleksandar Pačevski |
Status: Compulsory |
ECTS: 6 |
Prerequisites: - |
Course Objectives: Geology: introducing to students fundamental features of geodynamics and history of the Earth. One segment of lectures is focused on endodynamic processes and the other is focused on egzo-dynamic processes.
Mineralogy: The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic features of the most widespread minerals and petrological minerals, as well as their practical recognition based on physical properties. |

Content:
Theory teaching The lectures are separated in two fields: geology and mineralogy. The geology lectures are arranged in logical order starting from formation of the Earth and its geodynamic system, and moving towards volcanic, seismological, and other expressions of Earth’s internal dynamics, and egzo-dynamic processes on the surface. In addition, there is a special focus on interpretation of the Earth’s history, especially in Phanerozoic (Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic) which includes overview of geological history of Serbia.
The field of mineralogy includes three blocks. The first refers to general divisions and definitions in mineralogy. Occurrence, genesis and physical properties of minerals. The second one is devoted to the classification of minerals and the basic characteristics of more important minerals from the group of non-silicates. The third block is dedicated to more important petrogenic minerals from the group of silicates. |
