Course Objectives: Training students for the selection, calculation, planning of the use and maintenance of drilling and excavating machines in underground mining. |

Theory teaching Introductory lecture. Classification of drilling machines in underground mining. Rotary drills. Theoretical basis. Calculation of penetration rate. A impact hammer. Percussion drills, description of the operation. Theoretical basis. Power calculations, drilling rate. Sizing of the compressor. Drilling rigs. Hydraulic drills. Theoretical basis. Work methods. Power calculation. Drilling equipment and accessories. Drill bits, rods and accessories. The selection. Classification of excavation machines. Longwall machines. Description and theoretical basics. Cutting picks. Geometry parameters of the pick/wedge. Calculation of the cutting force. Cutting drum. Shearers, technology and operation. Capacity calculation. Power calculation (digging and moving). Plows for coal. Work methods. Capacity calculation. Machines for roadway development - Roadheaders and Continuous Miners. Power and capacity calculations. Selection of the excavation machine. Natural factors. Exploitation factors. Maintenance of drilling and excavation machines in underground mining. Mining workshops. Practical teaching Calculations of the piston cycle. Calculating the power of the piston and impact hammers. Calculation of drilling rate, rotary and percussive drills. Selection of drill hammers for known operating conditions. Calculation of the cutting force of the picks (based on the cut depth and based on the shear force). Calculation of the cutting force of the cutting drum. Calculation of the power of the drive motor.
