Course Objectives:
Detailed introduction to the design, application, calculation and selection of machines for surface mining and transport
Learning Outcomes:
Acquiring the necessary theoretical knowledge, from the point of view of design and calculation of the basic mechanisms of given machines
Content:

Theory teaching
Introduction - Application conditions, advantages and disadvantages depending on the mode of operation. Basic concepts, technology and production processes in surface mining. - Requirements to be fulfilled by machines in working conditions on surface mines and mines with underground exploitation. - Classification of machines and equipment in mining, historical development of mining machines. - The processes of excavation of rock in surface mining, rocks as an object of the action of mining machines. Drilling machines in surface mining. Digging and loading machines in surface mining. Classification of digging/excavation machines. Excavators with single working element - development, classification, working elements, under-carriage construction with transport device, swinging platform, kinematic scheme, basic mechanisms, auxiliary mechanisms and devices, capacity, drives, steering, static calculator, steel ropes, lubrication, maintenance, safety measures for the operation of the excavator with single working element. Excavators with multiple working elements - development, classification, working elements, under carriage construction with transport device, swinging platform, kinematic scheme, basic mechanisms, auxiliary mechanisms and devices, capacity, drives, operation, static calculation of excavators, lubrication, safety and protection devices, maintenance, safety measures for the operation of excavators with multiple working elements. Machines and devices for the transportation in surface mining:, Classification of machines and devices for transportation, general on transportation in surface mining, Prerequisites for the application and selection of means of transport.- Railway transport on surface mines - application area, Railway lines (sub-ballast, sleepers and rails). Mining wagons - basic parameters of wagons, types of wagons and constructive schemes, basic construction of wagons (transport device, supports, support frame, braking system, joining systems, etc.). Locomotives - general about locomotives, classification, basic types and parameters of locomotives, drives, power transmission systems, braking systems. Truck transport in surface mining - field of application and truck transport scheme, roads, classification, types of trucks, motors. –Belt conveyors in surface mining, application area and belt conveyor belts, Loading and transfer devices, design, components, drums,, drive station, return station, drive systems, conveyor belt, start of conveyor and braking, device cleaning, devices for tensioning. Maintenance of the conveyor belts. Machines and devices for disposal and reloading - Stacking and transfer machines and equipment.. - Stackers - development, classification, under carriage with transport device, swinging platform, basic mechanisms, capacity, drives, control, static calculation, safety and protection devices, maintenance. - Transport-stacking bridges - history, application conditions, construction, capacity. - Machines for working on deposit (stacking machines, engaging machines, combined machines, construction, stacking technology, homogenization efficiency). Machines and devices for auxiliary works in surface mining: Auxiliary machines in surface mining. Design of auxiliary machines. - Dozers Scrapers Loaders Rippers Graders,. -Other machinery for auxiliary works in surface mines (transport platforms, cranes, means of transport, etc.).

Practical teaching
Determination of digging resistance, determination of specific ground pressure. Calculation of the capacity and power of the drive of the basic mechanisms of excavators with one or more working elements. Calculation of stability in operation and transport. Determining the capacity of excavators with one or more working elements. Static calculation of the excavator (balancing the superstructure, the stability of the excavator). Calculation of the power of the basic mechanisms of the stackers. Calculation of pulling and braking forces for truck and locomotives. Calculation of the basic components of the conveyor belt (rollers, drums, rubber belt). Pulling, capacity and static calculation of dozer, ripper, scraper, grader and loaders. static calculations, pipe-layer and cranes.

Conduct of the Course:
Theoretical teaching is carried out as classroom lectures with multimedia support. Practical classes are partly performed in the classroom through assignments and the presentations related to mining machinery and partly by the tour of mining sites and facilities.
