Pipeline Systems and Compressor Stations

Study program:
Mine Mechanization (VIII semester -BsC)
Petroleum Engineering (VIII semester -BsC)
Name of subject: Pipeline Systems and Compressor Stations
Instructors:
Prof. Dejan Ivezić, Prof. Aleksandar Madžarević
Status: Optional
ECTS: 5
Prerequisites: Thermodynamics, Machine Elements
Course Objectives:
Detail introduction with physical and chemical characteristics of natural gas, systems for gas transmission and distribution, calculation of gas network and compressors.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful finishing of course, students should be able to understand principles of gas distribution system operation, to define necessary amounts of gas for consumption, to design transmission and distribution gas pipelines, as well as to calculate operation parameters and to select compressors.
Content:

Theory teaching
Physical and chemical characteristics of natural gas; Transmission and distribution of natural gas; Principles of the gas pipeline network calculation; Calculation of pressure drop in horizontal pipelines; Algorithm for dimensioning distribution pipelines; Hydraulic gas pipeline calculation. Use of natural gas and consumption norms; Natural gas storages; Gas sector in national energy system; Compressors operating principles (reciprocating, screw, and centrifugal) are presented with a particular emphasis to the implementation in the mining and gas industry; Compressor stations: selection of compressors and their places in the gas network, design, servicing, regulation of operation, maintenance . Auxiliary equipment: cooling, lubrication, safety elements, protection measures, etc.

Practical teaching
Calculation procedure for pipelines design, calculation of compressor operation parameters, selection of compressor

Conduct of the Course:
Content of theoretical teaching is expose by the method "ex cathedra" with the support of computer presentations, the second part of the lecture is done by the "case study" method, that is, the analysis of characteristic cases and examples that illustrate theoretical content. Seminar work is obligatory for all students, as well as independent numerical and graphic paperwork; A visit to the facilities of PC Sribijagas is obligatory.
