Course Objectives: Mastering of acoustic concepts, quantities and laws. Gaining knowledge about: the impact of noise on human beings; permissible noise levels; measuring techniques; noise monitoring; and noise protection. |
Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to undertake measures in noisy work environments. |
Content:
Theory teaching Waves in elastic media. Transverse waves. Longitudinal waves. Wave energy. Wave propagation velocity. Wave at the boundary of two media. Basic characteristics of acoustic waves. Energy transferred by acoustic waves. Weber-Fehner law and hearing diagram. Acoustic spectrum. Doppler effect in acoustics. Sound intensity, pitch and timbre. Hearing threshold. Pain threshold. Binaural effect. Impact of noise on human beings. Noise sources. Noise level and estimation. Indoor and outdoor noise propagation. Noise measurement and analysis instrumentation. Noise monitoring in work environments. Regulated noise levels in work environments. Noise suppression and protection. Noise absorption. Noise absorbers. Practical teaching Calculation and experimental assignments. |
