Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to acquire knowledge on sedimentary environment reconstruction procedure based on the characteristics of preserved organic matter. |
Learning Outcomes: Through this course, students acquire knowledge about the characteristics of different types of organic matter and their importance for the reconstruction of paleoenviroments. |
Content:
Theory teaching The organic matter. Quantity of organic matter; geochemical cycle of carbon. The chemical composition of the organic matter; transformation process and mechanism of deposition of organic matter. Sedimentation, depositional environment and accumulation of organic matter. Organic facies; Classification of the dispersed organic matter. Terrestrial plant residues with the structure. Structureles (amorphous) organic matter. Classification of organic facies in relation to oil and gas potential. Practical teaching Practical work on a particular material. Reconstruction of deposition environment based on instructive examples. |
