Course Objectives: Acquiring appropriate knowledge about the major characteristics of geotectonic environments where igneous and metamorphic rocks are being formed as well as about the age and petrogenesis of igneous and metamorphic provinces in Serbia. |
Learning Outcomes: The students will be capable of investigating the origin and age of the rocks form magmatic and metamorphic formations in Serbia both during individual projects’ participation and during independent interpretation of the available data about igneous and metamorphic rocks. They will also be able to independently formulate geodynamic hypotheses about the petrogenesis of these rocks . The capability for clear presenting of the own data and preparation for further academic education on the PhD level will be also acquired. |
Content:
Theory teaching Introduction into the investigation of the origin of magmatic and metamorphic rocks. Active geotectonic setting of the rock formation: mid-ocean ridges, subduction zones, intraoceanic and intracontinental areas and the formation of magmatic and metamorphic rocks. Introduction into geology of the Balkan Peninsula and presentation of major magmatic and metamorphic formations. Mesozoic magmatic and metamorphic formations. Cenozoic magmatic and metamorphic formations. Practical teaching Using the available literature about magmatic and metamorphic formations. Setting up various problems related to petrogenesis and geodynamics and group discussions about possible solutions of open questions and conundrums. Individual working out of seminar works and their presentation. Discussion of the presented seminar works. |
