Name of subject: Stratigraphy of Serbia |
Instructors:
Prof. Meri Ganić, Jelena Stefanović |
Status: Optional |
ECTS: 5 |
Prerequisites: None |
Course Objectives: The course aims of the Stratigraphy of Serbia that students master the knowledge of modern stratigraphy our region, to contribute to the formation of the geological structure of Serbia. In addition, should realize their importance for other geological disciplines to develop the ability to observe, abstraction and reasoning in solving certain stratigraphic problems. |
Learning Outcomes: To familiarize students with the most important knowledge in the field of stratigraphy, its role and significance for exploring the stratigraphic structure of a certain area. Applying the principles of stratigraphic classification established with concrete examples of Serbia. Training for the use of knowledge from stratigraphy to explain the geological structure of Serbia. |
Content:
Theory teaching Elementary facts about chronostratigraphical units ascertained on the territory of Serbia. General chrono and facial stratotypes, domestic and facial chrono stratotypes, their importance in determining the position of Serbia geotectonic terms in the various time sections. General characteristics of the largest stratigraphic units on the territory of Serbia. General characteristics and distribution. The broadest area of development. Specific areas of development in the territory of Serbia, for each stratigraphic unit. Paleontological content and its significance for stratigraphy. A special emphasis on fosiliferous sites and their stratigraphic significance. Paleogeographic reconstruction of the position for each chronostratigraphical unit. Practical teaching Drawing geological columns of representatives sites and marking the appropriate areas on maps. Drawing synthesis of geological columns and their interpretation. Particular reference to the nature of the specific association of the fauna and its significance for the correlation, reconstruction of the estimation of the formation geological age. |
