Name of subject: Informatics 1
Instructors:
Prof. Ranka Stanković, MSc Jovana Rađenović
Status: Compulsory
ECTS: 7
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
Introduction to the basic theoretical and practical elements of Informatics for future engineers
Learning Outcomes:
Students will master the basics of computer technology and the possibilities of its application in solving engineering problems
Content:

Theory teaching
The initial teaching units include basic concepts, notion of information and data, and basic data types. In the domain of computer networks and the Internet, the types of computer networks and basic protocols, the uprise of the Internet, Internet addressing, Internet connection, Internet services, Internet security and the HTML are studied. The information system area (IS) includes the management of information, type, architecture and development of the IS, as well as the basics of UML modeling and GIS technologies. Then, database management systems, database design process, data models, and SQL language are introduced. Finally, an overview of modern software solutions for individual areas in mining and geology will be outlined.

Practical teaching
In computer laboratory, students are trained to work with MS Word, MS Excel and MS Access, to use HTML and graphic tools. Exercises are performed in a computer classroom, they are integrated with the Moodle system, and at the end of each class, students upload the solutions to the tasks performed at the exercises.
