Study programme objectives
» | Acquiring of basic geological knowledge in order to educate geological engineers for independent and quality work in the area of fundamental and applied geological disciplines; |
» | Providing for independent performance of regional geological research in the field of stratigraphy, sedimentology, petrology, remote sensing, tectonics, environmental protection, geoheritage, geoinformation technologies and other applied geological disciplines; |
» | Enabling students to understand the properties of geological formations, using modern methodology of field-cabinet-laboratory studies; |
» | Developing an engineering way of thinking and training for creative and professional solving of engineering and other professional geological problems while following modern trends in geological profession and science; |
» | Education of a graduate engineer with a high level of understanding of geological processes, phenomena and mechanisms of evolution of geological systems, as a quality basis for continuing further academic education (master and doctoral studies); |
» | Providing students to understand regional geological issues from the aspect of surface and subsurface geological settings, independent geological research of all levels of detail and presentation of results in the form of reports and geological maps of various scale; |
» | Qualifying for planning and participation in geological projects of fundamental and applied geological disciplines, as well as quality presentation of the obtained results in the field of regional geology; |
» | Practical training of undergraduate students for participation in team work, as well as for planning and organizing exploratory geological works through several fieldwork courses and professional practice; |
Professional status
» | understand and apply basic geological knowledge in various fields of fundamental and applied geological research; |
» | using an engineering approach to solving geological problems, actively participate in regional geological studies of the Earth's crust, for the needs of fundamental and applied geological disciplines; |
» | are fully qualified for independent work in the economy, using the acquired knowledge, skills and competencies of experts to study the lithological composition, geological age, tectonic pattern and evolution of geological formations for the needs of institutions and companies that base their activities on knowledge of geological materials; |
» | apply the acquired knowledge and use modern geological procedures and methods of studying the Earth's crust, as well as the latest software tools used in geological and engineering practice; |
» | perform tasks in the field of fundamental geology in domain of regional geological research of various geological formations in sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks using modern methods of geological mapping; |
» | perform specific tasks of regional geological research in the field of applied disciplines such as research of mineral resources, study of geothermal and hydrogeological resources, engineering-geological research, eco-environmental geological research, environmental protection and geo-heritage; |
» | carry out research from the aspect of surface and subsurface geological material and independently perform geological research of all levels of detail and presentation of results in the form of reports and geological maps of various scales; |
» | independently or in a team participate in the implementation of geological and other multidisciplinary projects and present the results of regional geological research; |
» | to continue their education in master's academic studies in the same study program or in one of the related study programs in the field of geosciences. |
