BENEFICIARY 3: GeoZS
________________________________________________

The Department of Geochemistry and Environmental Geology of the Geological Survey of Slovenia (www.geo-zs.si) is a leading research group in this country in matters of various geochemical studies, in particular of those related to environmental changes and anthropogenization. This research entity can potentially play a very important role in networking within the EU regions of convergence. The secondment and twinning measures foreseen by this proposal will fully promote and exploit RTD results of this scientific entity. In addition, these support actions will move GeoZS towards the European core of research. Simultaneously, this institution will be a strategic link for similar research centers of the adjacent regions to be more easily integrated into ERA.

Department of Geochemistry and Environmental Geology of the Geological Survey of Slovenia is conducted with a purpose of environmental research and assessment of heavy metal load in the environment. Principal research is conducted with a purpose of determination of distribution of heavy metals as a consequence of natural conditions (mineralization) or in combination with the influence of human activity, especially of mining, metallurgy, industries and urban emissions. Other activities are related to soil pollution assessment, reports on environmental impacts, inventory of abandoned mines and mining wastes, cooperation in the production of maps of geohazard, cooperation in structure-geological mapping and cooperation in deep geothermal borehole sitting.
