Support System Design

Course Objectives:
Introduction to calculation methods, selection of models, algorithms and computer programs used for designing support systems in mines (wooden support, steel support, concrete support, reinforced concrete support, spray-torkret concrete support, masonry support, prefabricated support and suspended support). Further directions for conquering new species and types of support systems and improving the properties of existing ones.
Learning Outcomes:
Empowered experts who can solve the problem of defining a suport system in the function of working environment conditions.
Content:

Theory teaching
Within this course, the complex of problems in the field of design and calculation of various types and forms of support constructions, which are most commonly used in mines, is studied. Among the most important issues are the following: load on the support systems, the shape of the support systems, the load capacity of the support systems, the afequat supporting materials, the conditions under which the support systems should bear the load (working conditions of the construction), the definition of optimal dimensions, All these questions have been processed in accordance with the accepted theoretical and practical engineering methods and principles.

Practical teaching
Based on the working environment, with the help of modern methods, the calculation of the load on the support systems-methods, the choice of the shape of the support systems, the load-bearing capacity of the support construction, the choice of supporting materials, the conditions of the construction behaviour, the definition of optimal dimensions of support systems, etc., practical check on the test pieces.

Conduct of the Course:
Lectures, presentations, films, laboratory exercises, exercises on school mine, computational exercises, independent student presentations and the preparation of seminar papers, the construction of a support system on an auditory part, measurements, processing of results and conclusions.
