Mineral Processing B

Study program:
Economic Geology (IX semester -MsC)
Minerology and Crystallography (VII semester -MsC)
Petrology and Geochemistry (IX semester -MsC)
Name of subject: Mineral Processing B
Instructors:
Prof. Predrag Lazić
Status: Optional
ECTS: 5
Prerequisites: no
Course Objectives:
Introducing students with possibilities, provided by methods of preparing mineral raw materials for valorization of poor and complex mineral raw materials, as well as limitations for obtaining definitive quality products in economical production. At the same time, students point to the importance of cooperation between experts for geological exploration of mineral deposits and experts for the mineral processing from the beginning of the research to the end of exploitation of the deposit.
Learning Outcomes:
Training students to recognize possible problems in mineral processing in a goal of successful ore valorization.
Content:

Theory teaching
The role and place of mineral processing in the valorization of mineral raw materials. Economic base. Balances of metals and minerals. Characteristics of minerals of importance for the preparation of mineral processing: density, hardness, electrical conductivity, magnetism, surface characteristics, etc. Influences on the process of preparation of mineral raw materials: chemical and mineral composition, structural texture characteristics, changes in minerals. Tests in the mineral processing during the research of deposits and the necessary data obtained by the expert on the preparation of mineral resources from the geologist. Classification of the process of mineral processing: crushing, and grading, magnetic concentration, electrical concentration, gravity concentration, flotation concentration, special concentration methods. Basic machines and devices that are used in the function of the process. Drain the product of the concentration.

Practical teaching
Sampling, metal and mineral balances, technological process schemes. Crushing, and grading, magnetic concentration, gravity concentration, flotation concentration and drainage of the products of concentration.
