Methods in Geochemistry

Course Objectives:
The aim of the course is to give a student information about the major analytical methods that are in use in modern geochemical research.
Learning Outcomes:
The student will be able to understand all methods, to run certain instruments and to understand the quality and the significance of the data obtained using different analytical methods.
Content:

Theory teaching
Introduction, Historical development of different methods, Sample preparation, Sample analyses, Standards, Spectroscopic methods basic principles, Emission spectroscopy, XRF, AAS, Mass spectroscopy basic principles, LA-ICP-MS, TIMS, surface analyses basic principles, Electron microprobe, Ion Microprobe. Geochemical modelling

Practical teaching
The exercises follow the lectures and are numerical related to different analytical methods.
