Economic Evaluation of Mineral Resources

Prerequisites: Mineral resources economics, Deposits of metallic mineral raw materials, Deposits of non-metallic mineral raw materials, Geology of oil, coal geology, Prospecting of deposits of solid mineral resources, Exploration of deposits of solid mineral resources.
Course Objectives:
Acquiring knowledge on modern forms of economic evaluation of mineral resources. Analysis of market factors in the evaluation of mineral resources, introduction to the specificities of the evaluation of metallic, non-metallic, energy, technogenic and ecological mineral resources.
Learning Outcomes:
Mastering the general and specific knowledge and skills in the field of economic evaluation of mineral resources. Understanding the market factors and their importance in the evaluation of mineral resources, understanding the specificity of the assessment of metallic, non-metallic, energy, technogenic and ecological mineral resources and mastering the possibilities of their application in the evaluation of concrete geological objects.
Content:

Theory teaching
Introduction. The history of the development of the methodology of the economic evaluation of the deposits of mineral raw materials. Evaluation methods and trends of development. Principles of DCF methods. Method of net present value and internal profitability, Benefit-cost analysis. Other valuation methods. Pre feasibility and feasibilityanalyzes. Expert evaluation of mineral deposits. Geological-economical evaluation at the end of individual stages of the exploration. Effectiveness of geological exploration. Types and performance indicators. Stock, bank and mineral raw materials. Market of mineral raw materials. Stock. Cartels. Mineral-raw material base, complex, policy and strategy. Geological-economic evaluation and concessions. Geological-economical maps. Connection of geological-economic maps and evaluation of deposits of mineral raw materials. Risks of investment in geological exploration. Types of risk and risk calculation methods. Geological-economical modeling of deposits of mineral raw materials. Industrial classification of mineral deposits. Specificity of economic evaluation of different types of deposits of metallic, non-metallic, energy, technogenic and ecological mineral raw materials.

Practical teaching
Active processing of case analyzes and consideration of subject matter through special practical exercises on examples of economic evaluation of deposits of metallic, non-metallic, energy and technogenic mineral raw materials, then presentation of seminar papers and verification of acquired knowledge through tests / colloquiums.

Conduct of the Course:
In addition to the audio-visual presentation of the subject matter, case analyzes are actively processed through discussion groups and interactive participation of students, then the subject matter is developed through special practical exercises on examples of economic evaluation of deposits of metallic, non-metallic, energy and technogenic mineral raw materials, seminar works and checking acquired knowledge through tests / colloquiums.
