Course Objectives:
Acquiring knowledge on the economics of mineral resources, methodological issues and concrete problems in applying economic principles to the problems of mineral resources in the practice of geological exploration, exploitation, coupling and consumption of metallic, non-metallic, energy and technogenic mineral resources.
Learning Outcomes:
Mastering general and specific knowledge in the field of mineral resource economics as well as applying economic principles to the problems of mineral resources in the practice of geological exploration, exploitation, sale and consumption of metallic, non-metallic, energy, technogenic mineral resources.
Content:

Theory teaching
Introduction. Basic terms in the field of mineral resource economics. Economic role of mineral resources, importance for economic development, connection with modern economy of industry. International trade, transition and globalization. Mineral raw material as a commodity, exhaustiveness, non-renewability and conservation policy of mineral raw materials, supply of mineral industry, market research and market equilibrium, cross-sectoral analysis, forecasting in mineral industry. Market, prices, profit and economic evaluation of mineral resources. Function and structure of the mineral industry, production process, structure and organization, financing, ownership. Metallic, non-metallic and energy mineral raw materials in the mineral industry and the economy. State policy, economic policy and mineral industry. Mineral-raw material base in social reproduction. Reproduction of the mineral resource base. Specificity of mineral resources in the transition economy, restructuring and privatization. The influence of mineral resources on the environment and the concept of their sustainable use. Same and future trends in the production and consumption of mineral resources. Scientific-technical progress and strategic importance of mineral resources.

Practical teaching
Analysis of the economics of selected domestic and foreign deposits of metallic, non-metallic, energy, technogenic and ecological mineral raw materials.

Conduct of the Course:
In addition to the audio-visual presentation of the subject matter, the case analyzes are actively processed through discussion groups and the interactive participation of students, then the subject matter is developed through special practical exercises in illustrative examples of the economics of the most important metallic, non-metallic, energy and technogenic mineral raw materials, seminar papers and checking acquired knowledge through tests / colloquiums.
