Course Objectives:
Introduction with some contemporary numerical methods of geostatic analyses in geotechnical engineering.
Learning Outcomes:
Use contemporary complex numerical methods in geotechnical engineering.
Content:

Theory teaching
Using numerical methods in geostatic analysis. Numerical modeling of terrain in the finite elements method (FEM). Constitutive models of soils and boundary conditions in the finite elements method (FEM). Constitutive models of discontinuites using finite element method. Stresses and strains in finite element method. Using finite element method for determining lateral earth pressure for retaining walls. Stability of slopes using finite element method. Stress-strain analyses for tunnels using finite element method. Using computing programs in getechnical engineering (GEOSLOPE, PLAXIS). Reliability analyses in geotechnical engineering: reliability analyses in slope stability, reliability of the settlement estimates.

Practical teaching
Exercises follow the material of lectures. Computing exercises, preparation of seminar papers.
