Name of subject: Tectonics
Instructors:
Prof. Nemanja Krstekanić
Status: Compulsory
ECTS: 5
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
The aim of this course is to introduce the plate tectonics: the origin of the forces and mechanisms that control the mobility of the tectonic plate, the processes at the border and inside lithospheric domains and evolution of the lithosphere over time.
Learning Outcomes:
Acquiring theoretical knowledge necessary for understanding global tectonic processes from the aspect of tectonic plates.
Content:

Theory teaching
Introduction, the internal structure of the Earth, tectonic movements, tectonics of lithospheric plates, tectonic processes in the domain of divergent boundaries of plates, tectonic processes in the domain of convergent boundaries of plates, the tectonic regime of transform boundaries of plates, platforms, main phases of the development of the lithosphere.

Practical teaching
Practical problems of geometry and kinematics of lithosphere slabs, independent works on selected topics, discussion of the connection of global tectonic processes and the geological evolution of the Alpine-Himalayan orogen.
