Volcanic Petrogenesis

Study program:
Geology (II semester -PhD)
Hidrogeology (II semester -PhD)
Name of subject: Volcanic Petrogenesis
Instructors:
Prof. Vladica Cvetković
Status: Optional
ECTS: 10
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
Upgrade of knewledge acquired during the graduate and undergraduate studies to provide a comprehensive coverage of the principles and techniques used in petrogenesis of igneous rocks and their cause-and-effect relationships with tectonic settings and crustal evolution. Consideration of magma types formed by partial meltig of upper mantle and lithosphere.
Learning Outcomes:
Ability to consider geological-petrological-geochemical data and solve problems related to partial melting in different geotectonic environment
Content:

Theory teaching
Mantle – Crust partial melting and magma genesis. Mantle petrology. Physical properties of mantle: heterogeneity of horizontal density, temperature, convection, chemistry and mineralogy. Asthenosphere - petrological significance. Petrogenesis and petrochemical indicators of basaltic, komatite, carbonatite, anorthosite, kimberlite and lamproite magmas. The role of secondary melting. Introduction ti granite problems

Practical teaching
Self study research work related to the topic of PhD. Presentation and discussion.
