Mineral Processing Industry 2

Study program:
Mineral Processing (X semester -MsC)
Name of subject: Mineral Processing Industry 2
Instructors:
Prof. Milena Kostović, MSc Marina Blagojev
Status: Compulsory
ECTS: 6
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
Introducing with industrial mineral processesing of energetic raw materials (coal), as well as metallic and non-metallic mineral raw materials, which are used for theirs valorization and for the production of final products for preparation in other industry. Introducing with the parameters of the technological process from the aspects of the process defining, which is based on the principle: mineral raw material and its characteristic – industrial mineral processing and its applicability - applicability of machine and device – product, its quality and applicability in other industry according to users requirements; Informing with the process control and the way in which the control is based, as well as with the technological, economic and ecological effects that can be realized in the industrial processes.
Learning Outcomes:
Qualifications for independent selection of appropriate industrial process of mineral raw materials for selected phases and integraly, on the basis of analyzed parameters; independent creation of technological process flowsheet with selection of appropriate machines and devices in the process.
Content:

Theory teaching
General about industrial mineral processing. Mineral raw materials - basic characteristics of ores and minerals, classifications, deposits. Products from the mineral processing, theirs properties and requirements of users; Industrial processes of preparation of metallic ores (iron, manganese, chromium, nickel, cobalt, molybdenum, wolfram, antimony, aluminum, arsenic, mercury, tin, lead, zinc, copper, gold, silver) and non-metallic mineral raw materials – (abrasives, asbestos, barite, boron, quartz sand, feldpar, mica, clays, fluorite, graphite, talc, magnesite, limestone, wollastonite, zeolites, diatomaceous earth, raw materials for the construction industry – construction stone and aggregates, raw materials for the production of cement and cement production).

Practical teaching
Laboratory exercises (experimental and theoretical); introducing with all phases of processing the some of mineral raw materials: iron ore (magnetic concentraton of oxide minerals), lead-zinc ore (preconcentration and flotation of sulphide ore), copper ore with pyrite (flotation of sulphide minerals and magnetic concentration of oxide iron ore), quartz sand (classification, attrition, gravity concentration), barite (water gravity concentration).
