Acquainting with principles and techniques of mathematical modelling and process simulation in mineral processing
Learning Outcomes:
Student is acquainted with mathematical modelling and simulation methods in mineral processing. Student acquired skills for independent development of mineral processing models
Content:

Theory teaching
1. Introduction. Modelling and simulation in mineral processing. Probabilistic and deterministic process simulation principles. 2. Modelling and simulation of real processes. History of modelling in mineral processing 3. Basic calculations in mineral processing (Theoretical balances, mass balances, process flowcharts, quantitative process flowchart) 4. Calculation and selection of machines and equipment in mineral processing 5. Modelling of comminution processes 6. Modelling of classification processes 7. Modelling of concentration processes 8. Modelling of dewatering processes 9. Seminal paper preparatory session 10. Computer software for simulation of industrial processes 11. Simulation in mineral processing I (problem analysis, solution concept, SIMULINK user interface) 12. Simulation in mineral processing II (completing the solution, simulation result analysis, utilization in real mineral processing plant) 13. Automation and control in mineral processing plants 14. Analysis and evaluation of seminal papers 15. Efficacy and optimization of mineral processing processes

Practical teaching
Material balance in mineral processing (2 sessions). Quantitative process flowchart (2 sessions). Calculation and selection of machines and equipment in mineral processing (2 sessions). Mathematical description of comminution and classification models (2 sessions). Mathematical description of concentration in mineral processing (2 sessions). Mathematical description of dewatering in mineral processing (2 sessions). Computer software in mineral processing process simulation (3 sessions)
