Mineral Processing Industry 1

Study program:
Mineral Processing (VIII semester -BsC)
Name of subject: Mineral Processing Industry 1
Instructors:
Prof. Milena Kostović, MSc Marina Blagojev
Status: Compulsory
ECTS: 5
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
Introducing with industrial mineral processing of energetic raw materials (coal), as well as metallic and non-metallic mineral raw materials, which are used for theirs valorization and for the production of final products for preparation in other industry. Introducing with the parameters of the technological process from the aspects of the process defining, which is based on the principle: mineral raw material and its characteristic – industrial mineral processing and its applicability - applicability of machine and device – product, its quality and applicability in other industry according to users requirements; Informing with the process control and the way in which the control is based, as well as with the technological, economic and ecological effects that can be realized in the industrial processes.
Learning Outcomes:
Qualifications for independent selection of appropriate industrial process of mineral raw materials for selected phases and integraly, on the basis of analyzed parameters; independent creation of technological process flowsheet with selection of appropriate machines and devices in the process
Content:

Theory teaching
Mineral raw materials (energetic, metallic and non-metallic): classification, characteristic. General about industrial mineral processing: basic of process, process flowsheet, process parameters. Products from the processes, theirs characteristics and requirements of users. Coal processing and utilization. Mineral processing of metallic ores (iron, chromium, antimony, molybdenum, lead, zinc, copper, gold). Mineral processing of non-metallic ores (barite, quartz sand, feldspar, mica, clay, magnesite, limenstone). Industrial waters.

Practical teaching
Laboratory exercises (experimental and theoretical); introducing with all phases of processing the following mineral raw materials: coal (coal cleaning by wather gravity concentration), chromium ore (water gravity concentration), lead-zinc ore (flotation of sulphide ore - selective flotation), copper ore (flotation of sulphide copper ore with regrinding) and quartz sand (washing, screening and classification).
